Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also a seasoned public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. The site also has the executive director. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is committed to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Holding a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since a young age. In 2009, while still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl with a dream to develop a series of web videos which would explore how gender is represented in games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. The harassment didn't discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization focused on the portrayal of women in pop media narratives.
